Jewellery Care Guide

With a little care, your jewellery can stay beautiful for years to come.

What is 14K Gold-Filled Jewellery?

Gold-filled jewellery has a substantial layer of 14K gold permanently bonded to a base metal core. It is not the same as standard gold plating, which has a much thinner surface layer.

Gold-filled jewellery is a durable, affordable alternative to solid gold and is made for regular wear. However, like all jewellery, it should be treated with care to maintain its shine.

Gold-Filled Care Tips

  • Put jewellery on last, after perfume, lotion, sunscreen, makeup and hairspray.

  • Remove before swimming, showering, exercising, gardening or using cleaning products.

  • Avoid chlorine, saltwater and harsh chemicals.

  • Wipe gently with a soft, dry jewellery cloth after wearing.

  • Store pieces separately in a dry pouch or airtight bag to help prevent scratches and moisture exposure.

  • Avoid rough cloths, paper towels and abrasive cleaners.

What is Sterling Silver?

Sterling silver is a precious-metal alloy containing 92.5% pure silver, usually marked “925”. The remaining metal is added to give the silver strength and durability for jewellery.

Tarnishing & Body Chemistry

Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time when it reacts with moisture, air and sulphur-containing substances. Tarnish is normal and does not mean your jewellery is damaged.

Everyone’s skin chemistry is different. Sweat, skin oils, hormones, medication, pregnancy, skincare products and humidity can cause some people’s silver to tarnish more quickly than others.

Rings, bracelets and close-fitting necklaces may need more frequent cleaning, as they come into regular contact with skin and everyday products.

Sterling Silver Care Tips

  • Avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, chlorine, cleaning products and hairspray.

  • Remove before swimming, showering and exercise.

  • Store in a cool, dry, airtight pouch or bag when not being worn.

  • Polish gently as needed with a soft silver-polishing cloth.

  • Avoid harsh chemical dips or abrasive polishing, particularly on textured, oxidised or stone-set pieces.

Everyday Cleaning

Over time, jewellery can collect skin oils, sweat and product residue. To refresh your pieces, gently wash with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild soap, then pat completely dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Avoid rough towels, paper products and abrasive cleaners. For pieces with pearls, porous stones or glued components, avoid soaking and clean gently with a soft, dry cloth instead.
